Zero-oil Lentil Cutlets is a delectable and easy recipe which has high protein content and is rich in fibre and flavours! Made with exactly the same batter as that of Dahi Vada, it can be cooked without oil and tastes absolutely divine. In fact, this is the way you can also make oil-free dahi vadas.
1 cup urad dal
1 finely chopped green chilli
salt as required
1/2 cup moong dal
1 cup finely chopped coriander leaves
For The Main Dish:
1 finely chopped onion
1 teaspoon ginger paste
1/2 teaspoon garlic paste
Soak the daals overnight. In the morning make a rough paste adding very little water and allow it to rest for 6 to 7 hours. You can alternately add a pinch of baking soda so that the mixture rises a bit and becomes light and fluffy.
Add ginger paste and salt and mix well. Now add chopped green chillies, garlic paste, chopped coriander and chopped onions.
Beat well and add a little water if you feel the batter is too tight. (Must ensure that the batter is not runny.)
Now heat a non-stick pan, make small rough oval shapes of batter and place on the pan. Cover and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Flip and cook till they are crispy. Remove from fire and serve with tamarind chutney.
