Yamaha R3 to be relaunched in India soon

Yamaha-R3

Yamaha India has temporarily removed the Yamaha R3 from their official website. In a telephonic conversation with Indian Autos Blog, Yamaha India’s public relations representative confirmed that the bike would be back soon.

The Yamaha R3 sold in India was BSIII compliant and hence could not be retailed in the country from April 1, 2017. The manufacturer will soon be introducing the BSIV version of the motorcycle, and the website will be updated then.

Abroad, the updated 2017 Yamaha R3 gains new graphics and colour options. Mechanically, the bike continues to be powered by the same 321 in-line twin cylinder mill coupled to a 6-speed gearbox. The engine is capable of producing 42 PS of maximum power at 10,750 rpm and 29.6 Nm of peak torque at 9,000 rpm. What we would love to see though is the inclusion of ABS in the Indian model, at least as an option.

Apart from this, Yamaha India has also removed the Yamaha FZ from the official website. The Yamaha FZ was the original 153 cc carburetted motorcycle which remained on sale despite the launch of the fuel injected Yamaha FZ 2.0 in July 2014.

Yamaha’s BSIV compliant FZ family now starts with the Yamaha FZ FI v2.0 priced at INR 80,726 and goes up to INR 82,789 for the Yamaha FZ-S FI v2.0 (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi).

The BSIV complaint Yamaha R3 too is expected to see a price increase from the BSIII version’s INR 3.26 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
