Chinese conglomerate Xiaomi has announced that it is ditching the flash sale model for selling the Mi 5 and Redmi Note 3. From June 1, it will make the smartphone available on Mi India website for purchase without registrations.
The move follows an announcement by Hugo Barra at Google I/O 2016, where he told Gadgets 360 that Xiaomi was looking to increase production of the Mi 5 in India to address the strong demand for the smartphone in the country.
This means that users will not have to register for a flash sale in order to buy an Mi 5. From Wednesday 10.00am IST onwards, interested buyers can just head over to the Mi.com website, and purchase the smartphone (if in stock) without much hassle.
Xiaomi has been making the Mi 5 available via open sales since its launch. The smartphone was launched in April, and is priced at Rs. 24,999.
To recap on the specs, the Xiaomi Mi 5 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI 7 on top. The dual-SIM smartphone features a 5.15-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) with curved 3D Ceramic glass, and a pixel density of 428ppi.
The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, paired with 3GB RAM and Adreno 530 GPU. For optics there is a 16-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX298 sensor, PDAF (phase detection autofocus), OIS, sapphire glass protection, 4K video support, and LED flash. It also sports a 4-megapixel selfie camera, with f/2.0 aperture.
The built-in storage capacity is 32GB, and the Mi 5 packs a 3000mAh battery that supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. It measures 144.5×69.2×7.25mm and weighs 129 grams. Connectivity options include VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/ac, 4G, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, Glonass, USB Type-C port,and NFC.
