Volkswagen will take the wraps off an all-new pickup concept at the 2018 Sao Paulo Auto Show on 6 November. The company says that this model is positioned below the Amarok.
A report from Auto Esporte says that the upcoming VW pickup concept is called ‘VW Tarok’. While the VW Amarok sits on a ladder-frame chassis, the VW Tarok is based on the monocoque MQB platform. The company says that the pickup concept is just a few minor tweaks away from being road-ready.
The VW Tarok concept combines urban SUV style elements with the DNA of a pickup. The urban-oriented pickup’s main highlight is “multivariable loading area”. Thanks to the folding rear panel, it is possible to significantly extend the loading area in just a couple of simple steps.
Volkswagen hasn’t released the pickup’s specifications yet, but does say that it has an all-wheel-drive system. Brazil is the primary target market, but other markets also may get it.
The VW Tarok will slot between the VW Saveiro and Amarok in Brazil. It could employ a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine or a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine. A diesel option is not planned. The new pickup from the German automaker will compete with the Fiat Toro and the Renault Duster Oroch.
