Turai Chutney


A yummy South Indian chutney that can be enjoyed with any meal, Turai Chutney is extremely easy-to-prepare! You can relish the taste of this delectable chutney recipe with plain rice too.

500 gm chopped,peeled,washed & dried ridge gourd
1 tablespoon chana dal
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/3 teaspoon powdered turmeric
2 pinches salt
1 teaspoon urad dal
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
2 red chilli
1 tablespoon refined oil
1 tablespoon tamarind juice

For The Main Dish:
1 tablespoon chana dal
1 teaspoon urad dal

Step 1
Heat a pan on medium flame, add oil and let it heat.

Step 2
Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, dry red chilli along with chana dal, urad dal and saute for a minute on medium flame.

Step 3
Add chopped ridge gourd (turai), turmeric powder and salt.

Step 4
Mix all the ingredients, cover the pan and cook on medium flame for about 3 to 4 minutes.

Step 5
Cook the ridge gourd till it turns soft or half cooked and keep stirring in between.

Step 6
Then turn off the flame and let it cool down. Put the fried ridge gourd in the blending jar and add tamarind juice.

Step 7
Blend it into paste (do not add water), transfer it into a bowl.

Step 8
The chutney is ready to serve and can be enjoyed with idli, dosa, rice, etc.
