Skoda, the Czech automaker is planning to launch a high performance version of its highly successful D-segment sedan- the Skoda Octavia. Dubbed Octavia vRS, the performance car was unveiled at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed and launched at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. It is expected that the Octavia vRS will make its Indian debut at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo in February.
Exterior and Interior
The overall styling of the sedan looks largely identical to the standard car, but it comes equipped with sportier body kit. It features black headlight, sporty bumper, mesh grille and newly styled fog lamps. The sporty grille flows into the front of the car that adds to its sporty touch. On the sides, the performance oriented Octavia vRS gets newly developed, sportier alloy wheels and flared wheel arches. At the back, the sedan has dual quad-shaped exhausts and a small rear wing fitted to the boot door.
The Skoda Octavia vRS has all the features that are available on the standard trim. Adding to it, the vehicle gets sports-style bucket seats, new three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel and ambient lighting. Features like dual-zone automatic climate control and a touchscreen infotainment system will be offered as standard. It is expected to get paddle shifters, electronic stability program and traction control as standard.
The European spec Octavia vRS is available with two engine options- 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel. While the former is good for 220bhp and crosses 0-100kmph in 6.8 seconds, the oil burner produces 184bhp and 380Nm of torque and is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in 8.1 seconds. The UK spec model also gets a 1.2-litre TSI engine paired to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. This engine is not likely to make its way to Indian market; 2.0-litre petrol and diesel could power the India-bound model.
Expected Price and Launch Date
It is expected that the Skoda Octavia vRS will be priced in the range of INR 18 lakh to INR 21 lakh. We expect the sedan to go on sale by the mid-2016.
