1 large onion
1 tablespoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup all purpose flour
2 teaspoon black pepper
1 cup canola oil/ rapeseed oil
To prepare this mouth-watering appetizer recipe, peel the onions and slice them using a mandoline slicer. Next, place these slices in a baking tray and add buttermilk to it. Submerge the onions in the buttermilk. (Note: If you do not have mandolin slicer, cut thin slices using a knife.)
Next, take a mixing bowl and mix together all purpose flour, salt, black pepper along with cayenne pepper and keep aside. Then, put a deep-bottomed pan over high flame and heat canola oil in it. When the oil is hot enough, pick some onions from the buttermilk using tongs and coat with the flour mixture. Shake them to remove excess of flour.
Add these flour coated onions in the hot oil and stir them with a spoon so they break apart from each other. Keep an eye on the pan as the onions take no time to cook. Remove them on a paper napkin when they are golden brown.
Repeat the process to make more such onion rings. Once all the onions are fried, serve them hot with tomato ketchup or your choice of sauce.
