Although there is no word from Suzuki or reports on a new-gen Celerio, given that the current version was launched in January 2014, the Japanese manufacturer could be thinking about a replacement for its global A-Segment vehicle.
Headlight Mag member ‘Dark Overlord’ has created a rendering of a Suzuki Celerio facelift with styling cues incorporated from new Suzuki models like the Swift and the Baleno. Being a facelift, one could expect small revisions to the exterior and interior for an updated and contemporary look.
Another possibility is that Suzuki could skip the facelift and introduce a second gen Celerio so as to slot perfectly between the Wagon R and Ignis. Unlike what the render suggests, the new Celerio will stick to the conventional bean-shaped hatchback design so as to distance itself from the Ignis.
With increasing preference for touchscreen systems in entry-level cars, Maruti could equip the top-end model with their Smartplay infotainment system. As the platform is not very old, Suzuki may want to do a new top-hat rather than moving it to the Heartect fifth-gen platform.
Competitors like the new-gen Kia Picanto, Citroen C1 and Hyundai i10 offer touchscreen system, autonomous braking, even a turbo engine and better refinement, all of which the Celerio will wish for in the second generation.
In India, the Celerio likely to retain the K10B 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that develops 50 kW (68 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. While the model sold locally can be had with a 5-speed AGS, the Celerio in other international markets comes with a CVT as an option.
