Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is poised to bring the evocative Jeep brand to the Indian automotive scene soon. While the official launch of the brand in India will occur at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo next month, it was soft launched at a private event in Bangalore on Saturday.
The Jeep stall at the Auto Expo will not only include the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler, but it will also showcase their high performance sub-brand, SRT. The company has already unveiled their website and social media channels. The Grand Cherokee will be sold as a top end variant and will be powered by a 3.0 litre diesel motor that delivers 237 bhp connected to an 8 speed automatic transmission. Pricing for the Grand Cherokee will hover around the INR 85 lakh mark.
It will also include all the toys possible such as a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, a power tailgate, bi-xenon adaptive headlight clusters, satellite navigation, a rear view camera, keyless entry, massive 20 inch alloy rims and far more. The Grand Cherokee SRT will be powered by a 6.4 litre V8 HEMI engine that belts out 475 bhp. Since it can do the 0-100 kph dash in just 5 seconds, the SRT version also gets six-pot brakes from Brembo. One of these vehicles will set you back by around INR 1.4 crores. The other model, the Wrangler, will be powered by a 2.8 litre diesel engine that puts out 197 bhp and be priced in the ballpark of INR 40 lakhs.
