Google Chrome v52 for Android enhances video viewing experience

The company says that the new version brings improved speed and efficiency, along with better battery life.

Google has updated its Chrome browser on Android to version 52, which promises a better video viewing experience. The company claims that video playback has been improved for speed and efficiency, resulting in smoother playback along with faster load times. Further, videos will start playing sooner and will consume less battery.

In an official blog post, the company stated, “Web video is huge, with over a billion hours played in Chrome every week on sites like Amazon, Facebook, The New York Times, Netflix and YouTube. Much of that is on mobile devices, and we want to make your viewing experience great.”

Besides these changes, the company also announced that video was now going to work with Data Saver Mode. The company claims that this would allow users to save as much as 50% on data by showing a “lightweight” version of the video. It was also noted that the changes would be most noticeable on short videos.

Last month, it was reported that the Beta version of Chrome started supporting WebVR framework. WebVR is an experimental javascript API that gives access to VR devices in the browser. This allows users to browse VR content in the browser via supported headsets like Cardboard or the Samsung Gear VR.
