From north to south, east to west, rice are literally the lifeline of many in Indian households, and without it the meal seems incomplete. Enjoy it with dal (lentils) or eat it with vegetables in the form of pulao, rice can be enjoyed in all ways.
1 cup chana dal
2 cloves minced garlic
2 teaspoon grated ginger
red chilli powder as required
2 teaspoon chopped coriander leaves
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 cup basmati rice
1 large onion
Salt as required
6 cup water
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
6 cup water
To prepare this yummy rice recipe, first wash rice in running water and then soak in water for about 20-25 minutes. Next, wash the chana dal in running water and keep it aside.
When the rice are soaked, take a sauce pan, add oil in it and heat on medium flame. Then, add cumin seeds, garlic, fennel seeds, ginger in the pan and saute for a minute or two.
Next, add sliced onion in the pan and saute until the onion is transparent. Add salt and red chili powder to the pan and cook for about 30-40 seconds. Then, add the chana dal and cook for about 2-5 minutes, and then add two cups of water to the pan and stir to mix well all the ingredients.
Cover the pan with a lid and cook the chana dal for 4-5 minutes until tender. Now, add basmati rice in the pan and mix well with all the other ingredients. Add the rest of the water and cover the pan once again with the lid, cook the rice and dal until the water is completely absorbed.
Open the lid in between to check whether the rice are done or not. When the khichdi is cooked, garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with fresh curd or pickle and salad. Enjoy!
