Bread Idli is a South Indian recipe made using white bread, potato, yoghurt and a melange of different spices. Healthy and nutritious, this main dish recipe can be served with coconut chutney or sambhar.
4 slices bread- white
3/4 teaspoon red chilli powder
1/2 teaspoon grated ginger
1/4 teaspoon garam masala powder
2 handful chopped coriander leaves
1 1/2 teaspoon refined oil
1 sprig curry leaves
2 large boiled potato
1/4 teaspoon dry mango powder
2 pieces green chilli
1/4 teaspoon cumin powder
2 pinches salt
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
For The Main Dish:
1 cup yoghurt (curd)
To prepare this breakfast recipe, first prepare the potato mixture. For that, put boiled potatoes in a bowl and mash it properly. (You can also grate the potatoes.)
Add all the spice powders – dry mango powder, red chilli powder, green chilli, chopped ginger, salt, garam masala, cumin powder, chopped coriander leaves and mix until well combined. The potato mixture is ready.
How, to prepare the yoghurt mixture, keep a bowl under the strainer and strain the yoghurt to make it smooth. If yoghurt is very thick, then add water to make it medium thick. The yoghurt should not be very thick or thin in consistency. Add salt to taste and red chilli powder, mix it well.
Cut bread slices into round shape with the help of katori. Take the potato mixture and apply it evenly on one side of round bread.
Heat non-stick pan on medium flame and spread little oil in the pan. Once the pan gets little hot, place the potato side of the bread on tawa and spread the yoghurt mixture on the other side of the bread.
Cover the bread with a lid and cook on low flame, till the potatoes turn red and yoghurt get absorbed with bread and become fluffy. It takes around 7 to 8 minutes to get cooked.
Meanwhile let’s prepare the tempering. For that heat oil in a pan and add mustard seed, when mustard begins to crackle, add curry leaves along with coriander leaves, stir for a minute.
Uncover the lid and take out the prepared bread Idli in a serving plate. Pour the tempering on top of it and serve hot.
